Maya walked out of the hailie. She took a predetermined path, passing the silky touch of dozens of leaves of a strange crossbread orchid — an orchid that grew a lot of cilia in the rims of the its leaves.

She then hurried past the orchids, towards the front door.

People outside the facility had very little or no knowledge of that fact, that it’s not the iris, or eye that is being scanned to identify people. Not the eye alone.

Dermaprint explained

Fonystill Studios facility had very special security installations indeed. These track your body temperature profile, tact, walk posture and a swath of other measurements. Whether you looked at a camera or not, the identification was bullet proof.

Remember the orchids? The fine hair growing in the tips of their leaves was very advanced indeed. The orchids are part of the security.

In addition to normal visual and infrared cameras digitizing the passer-by, the orchids have a very brief, biochemical bonding through the skin of anyone who touches them.

Dermaprint. It’s a chemical fingerprint through flesh, encoded into a stream of bits, fed to the CR unit of the security system and giving a final judgment of the security clearance.

The breeding of Orchids in another story, the oncoming Chapter 5.
