Thoughts of a First time author: Character development!

Background: My first story is incubating.

It has been a kind of a focus for the past 6 years. “A kind of”, and you raise the eyebrows? Yes, a kind of a focus. Indeed.

Writing takes place as fierce keyboard-clacking moments. These last anything between 5 and 20 minutes. Then it’s silence.

I am thinking of developing the characters, as a means to really put myself reading through the entire text. And editing. Deleting. Re-writing. But most of all: keeping my own instincts alive regarding the story development.

There IS a grand scheme for this entire book. The first book is a prelude to events unfolding at significantly further down in future. Cozy, hopefully original, and memorable story of what we have seen around in the society for quite some time. A bunch of friends strike upon the idea of having their own consultancy company. And the rest, as they say, will be.. future.

Some words about approaching Character development

Writing my first novella, I was intrigued by having read James Kinsley’s thoughts of the characters in a book by Tony Ashman. Kinsley, quote: “What redeems the book .. is primarily its characters.” On The Edge by Tony Ashman | James Kinsley
